Nineteen of the Russian's 21 victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player won his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has endured a torrid year, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in particular - led to him exiting of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Presently collaborating with his coach and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually improved in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought competitive triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents his maiden title following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt after that period of 2023.

Success also indicates he has achieved twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my children at once, so to get a title is particularly special," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, including in Halle earlier this year.

The player's counter-punching play style and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted observers to question if his skill to perform at the highest level was over.

However the player has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and compete assertively, supported by an improved serve.

He came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, taking four of the concluding five points to go ahead.

The pair exchanged breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden professional victory, took control to create a third set.

He saved four initial chances in a competitive third set before the Russian broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Appropriately, he clinched victory with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
