Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing divine entities, fiends, and dark forces expanding in influence within the city.

Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 are included.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The latest chapter finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.

Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

Per the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are rare.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the actions of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

First, the group knows exactly where to head next after a intense initial meeting with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.

Casimir then settled his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a specific drive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous place.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • However, their position as key figures in the powerful family could enable the group access areas they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This means them few options but to journey toward the remote area in search of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

According to episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Questers and Schemers parties.

Fans can anticipate discovering which characters will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
